Vern’s Story
Artist Vern Pond is currently offering museum quality giclée prints of his four recent paintings of birds.
Wildlife Education and Experience
When Vern was just 3-years old visiting his grandparents’ Shenandoah Valley mountaintop home, his family observed & photographed his fascination with wildlife and nature. As he matured, so did Vern’s love and respect for nature.
Vern is a West Virginia University Wildlife Conservation graduate with an emphasis in ornithology, the study of birds.
In addition to his studies, Vern performed research work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He conducted field research, testing various reclamation techniques to restore coal strip mines to the natural habitat for native wildlife.
Upon graduation Vern accepted a position with the National Wildlife Federation. Eventually he resigned to pursue art, his other burning passion.
His love and expertise of wildlife coupled with his artistic skills, has resulted in beautiful and informative art.
He built a remarkable wildlife jewelry and sculpture business from his Torpedo Factory Art Center studio in Alexandria, Virginia. Several years later he moved his studio to Charlottesville, VA.
Current Paintings and Interests
Retired from jewelry and sculpture art, Vern is living on that mountaintop where he first fell in love with nature. He is focusing his time and talent on his love of painting wildlife in their natural habitat.
Vern paints from his passion, knowledge, and interactions with wildlife. Because of his love for animals, Vern adopted Ace from the Page County SPCA.
His love of nature continues to grow. Vern is experimenting with planting a personal orchard with a variety of fruits including kiwis.
